This bookshelf is designed by Job Koelewijn, a Dutch designer who captures beautifully in this shape the poles of my outlook on reading. This sculpture celebrates the infinite possibilities of books, but it also asserts limits. The books at the centre of the infinite loop are not easy to access, and we will never be able to read all of the books that call out to us. That is the frustration of facing abundance.
Infinite Possibilities

The children would have loved this when I was teaching 10 and 11 year olds. They would have curled up in the two inner spaces and I would have lost them to whatever fictional world they had entered for the rest of the day.
My big sister’s another one who would love this. She’s still a total tomboy and loves scrambling and climbing to get to inaccessible places. She’d put blankets down in the middle of the loops and stay for hours reading.
That is one awesome bookcase!
