The essay on Harry Potter was the only one I did not like. Nothing to object to, per se, but a bit flat. The one on John Masefield redeemed The Midnight Folk for me, and the feminist reading of the Oz books was really interesting.

I didn’t realize this was a book of essays! That makes me want to read it more, for some reason. I do like Alison Lurie a lot, and it sounds like she has interesting things to say about the books I loved as a kid.

I’ll look out for your review. I just ordered Don’t Tell the Grown Ups after enjoying this one so much. Have you read anything by Maria Tatar on fairy tales? Off With Their Heads is fantastic.

The copy I already owned was the hardcover pictured above, but the one I bought was by Penguin, so should not be hard to find.
